How to groom your horse to win!

The key to a healthy, shiny coat is a well-balanced diet. So how come that so many horses aren’t up to Competition standard through their diet? The answer is remarkably simple, because what could help a healthy shiny coat isn’t given in sufficient quantity. So here’s a feed supplement that helps, that gives a stunning coat shine long before you even take a brush to your horse. Some really good, free advice on this page too!!

Now, follow this line of thought… what naturally makes your horse’s coat shiny is the sebum excreted by sebaceous glands. It’s oily, hence the shine. Often show preparation sees one scrub moisturising shampoo deep into the coat with a rubber currycomb to lift out the scurf (dead skin) and the dirt; mane and tail are washed with a dedicated shampoo; then detangler, conditioner, shining sprays, hoof polish; but what about this:

if there’s a lot of scurf then you’re not feeding your horse right, it’s like having dandruff (remember how Head & Shoulders changes human skin pH and yes, such acid-alkaline balance is diet related); an easiest first step is to add sunflower seeds and in-ratio omega 3/6/9 oil to your horse’s diet
removal of scurf is exfoliation which all ladies know to work best via salt scrubs, add Epsom Salts (MgSO₄) and through its skin you’d give your horse relaxing Magnesium
shampoo dissolves natural oils (those your horse gets through diet), so if you want a shiny coat then shampoo only when your horse is properly dirty, on all other occasions just rinse & brush the dust off
did you know that various free fatty acids (FFAs) in sebum have shown antibacterial activity against a broad range of gram-positive bacteria, resulting in the suggestion that they are accountable, at least partially, for the direct antimicrobial activity of the skin surface; so don’t remove sebum and don’t think that other oils will do the same as/be better than sebum; instead feed Aloeride® that helps skin and sebum
if you remove natural oils from the coat, then there’s an obvious need to re-apply oils (pig oil, hair polish, show sheen or best of all baby oil), if you have to apply a significant amount of oil to get the shine right then your basics are wrong
and what about moisturising oil… there’s no such thing, at best by applying oil on skin you’d obstruct perspiration, so more moisture might stay in but not because the body wants it to
nothing will take the shine off your horse’s coat faster than the toxic load of heavy worm burden, be sure to worm regularly and follow a good worming rotation schedule
absolutely nothing is as simple or works as well as brushing brushing brushing, sure it plucks dead hair from your horse’s coat but the reason why brushing is best is because it distributes sebum evenly over the coat, it stimulates the sebaceous glands to release oils, it stimulates the blood flow in the skin (so nutrients can get to it more readily), it stimulates lymphdrainage, and for those interested in acupuncture it makes your horse’s Qi flow…
and to get way more mileage out of your brushing, simply add 1 sachet/day of Aloeride® aloe vera to give massive benefits to covering epithelium (coat, mane, tail, hooves are covering epithelium); the results are truly AMAZING
