Immune defences

Han van de Braak discusses immune system host resistance. Why do some people go down with flu whilst others don’t. The answer is not so much about exposure to a strain of flu virus, as you might expect, but is all about whether or not your immune system is able to conquer the virus. This is known as host resistance, the alpha and omega of who's in charge, you or the bug... But it isn't just bugs it deals with, host resistance also mops up the imperfectly formed cells.

I want to make it absolutely clear that this page concerns itself with strategy, things you can do to enhance your host resistance, this page is not about auto-immune responses, this page is not about one pill curing every ill. This page aims to empower you to load your immune system 'guns' and be more succesful in fighting anything that tries to conquer you.

Nourishing your immune system starts with optimum nutrition, then adding physical activity and a positive frame of mind makes it even more robust.
Psycho-Neuro-(Endocrine)-Immunology  proved that an absence of happiness makes one’s immune system depressed too. As prescribed antidepressants are not without risks, a natural option as a first port of call may be preferable. Herbs and nutritional supplements can help, as can light therapy for those with SAD syndrome. Some life coaching can be helpful to find focus.
Brisk walking for 20 minutes every day is sufficient to make a difference, it creates happy hormones as well as boost immunity. Avoiding exhaustion (via stress or otherwise) generally is good advice and getting ample quality sleep is essential.
Daily diet and required nutritional value for your body often are not on the same plate. What people qualify as ‘good food’ has more to do with ‘nice’ than with the diversity of fuel a body needs. Optimum nutrition is invaluable.
When the protection of your immune system fails, pathogens can invade your body and a normal level of abnormal cell replication becomes uncontrolled.
The beauty of a functional immune system is that it can adapt to pathogens mutating themselves, something prescribed drugs cannot do. Naturally boosting that flexible system simply improves your odds of good health.   The relevance of this ranges from just clinical outcomes to statistics.
To stave off an acute viral infection, raising your blood serum redox potential via high dosage of natural, water soluble vitamin C plus ample of oral proteolytic enzymes often suffices. This however would not suffice at all for retroviruses. Appropriate, correctly prepared natural remedies in adequate dosage really can make a difference.
More robust immune modulation (take note, not only immune stimulation) can be achieved with for instance Dionaea muscipula but this should be taken in proper context (see text on the left).
Those undergoing therapies that destroy lymphocyte subpopulation, functions of phagocytosis and chemotaxis can change their odds significantly by improving their immune system.
